Digestive Symptoms and Conditions
At Gastrocare London, we help patients understand and treat a wide range of digestive, liver, and pancreatic issues. Below is a guide to some common symptoms and the conditions they may be linked to.
Common Gastrointestinal Symptoms
We diagnose and manage a wide range of stomach, bowel, liver, and pancreatic symptoms. From bloating and heartburn to rectal bleeding and unexplained weight loss, we will help identify the cause and provide the right treatment.
Weight Loss
Losing weight without trying could be a warning sign of gastrointestinal disease, malabsorption, or cancer. It should always be investigated.
Change in Bowel Habits
Long-term changes in bowel frequency, consistency, or urgency may indicate IBS, IBD, or bowel cancer.
Yellowing of Skin/Eyes
Caused by a build-up of bilirubin in the blood. Often linked to liver disease, bile duct blockage (from stones or tumours), or pancreatitis.
Fatigue or Anaemia
Low energy, low blood count or iron levels may result from chronic bleeding in the gut, inflammation, or malabsorption.
Rectal Bleeding
Noticing blood in your stool or on toilet paper may be due to piles, polyps, IBD, or bowel cancer. It’s important to get it checked early.
Common Gastrointestinal Conditions
We manage a very broad spectrum of gut, pancreas and liver conditions. In the rare cases where the severity or the particular condition requires subspecialised care we cannot offer, we are able to refer you on to the right team.

Crohn’s & Colitis
Chronic inflammatory bowel conditions that trigger abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bleeding, and fatigue. They need specialist diagnosis and special management.

MASLD
A build-up of fat in the liver not linked to alcohol. Common in people with obesity, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome, it can progress to cirrhosis.

Gallstones
Stones can form in the gallbladder or bile ducts, causing pain, nausea, infection, and even
jaundice if they block bile flow.

Pancreatitis
Inflammation of the pancreas, which can be acute (sudden and severe) or chronic. Often linked to alcohol, gallstones, or genetic factors.

Pancreatic Cysts
Incidental or symptomatic cysts in the pancreas are assessed with EUS, biopsy, and imaging to determine their nature, risk, and need for treatment.

IBD
Covers Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis — long-term bowel inflammation causing abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bleeding, and fatigue.

Coeliac Disease
An autoimmune reaction to gluten that damages the small bowel lining, leading to inflammation and symptoms such as pain, bloating, and diarrhoea.

IBS
A common functional gut disorder causing bloating, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea or constipation. It’s chronic but manageable with the right approach.

Bowel Cancer
We perform diagnostic colonoscopies and FIT testing for patients at risk of colorectal cancer due to symptoms, family history, or positive screening results.

Colonic Polyps
Small growths in the bowel lining, which are usually benign but can sometimes turn into cancer. We offer detection and removal during colonoscopy.
